Course Overview
Radiographic Testing (RT) is a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) method that uses ionizing radiation, such as X-rays or gamma rays, to examine the internal structure of materials. It allows inspectors to detect flaws or defects within a material without altering or damaging it. The technique is commonly used to assess the integrity of metals, welds, and other industrial components.
Course Objective:
To gain hands-on experience and a comprehensive understanding of the types, advantages, and applications of Radiographic Testing (RT) as one of the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods.
Main Advantages
- Can inspect both surface and internal defects.
- Provides permanent records of the inspection for future reference.
- Non-destructive process that does not alter the material being tested.
- Suitable for inspecting thick materials and welds.
- Can be automated for consistent and high-throughput testing.
Disadvantages
- Requires strict safety precautions due to the use of ionizing radiation.
- Only suitable for inspecting certain materials (metal, welds, some plastics).
- Equipment is costly, and handling requires specialized knowledge.
- Interpretation of radiographic images can be complex, requiring skilled technicians.
- Not ideal for inspecting very small or complex geometries without proper preparation.
Target Audience
Level I: NDT Operators, Engineers, Technicians, and anyone looking to gain foundational knowledge in Radiographic Testing.
Level II: Engineers & QA/QC Personnel, Welding Supervisors & Inspectors, NDT Technicians & Practitioners, and those already certified as Level I who wish to advance their expertise to Level II.
Award
Delegates attending and successfully completing both the practical and written assessments will receive a certificate of completion, demonstrating compliance with SNT-TC-1A or relevant standards for Radiographic Testing.
This course provides you with the knowledge and expertise to perform Radiographic Testing confidently and effectively, setting you up for success in your NDT career.
