Introduction to Drilling

Course Objectives;

  • Provide participants with a solid understanding of drilling operations, including the basic principles and equipment involved in the drilling process.
  • Teach participants about the key components of a drilling rig, including the drilling stack, wellhead, and derrick, and how they function during operations.
  • Equip participants with the knowledge of drilling fluids, their properties, and their role in the drilling process, including circulation, cooling, and wellbore stabilization.
  • Familiarize participants with the different types of drilling operations, such as rotary, percussion, and directional drilling, and their applications in various drilling scenarios.
  • Introduce participants to common drilling hazards and the safety measures used to mitigate risks, ensuring safe drilling operations.
  • Provide participants with the skills to understand well control principles and the importance of managing wellbore pressure to prevent blowouts.
  • Explain the drilling rig’s operational processes, including the drilling of boreholes, casing, and the importance of well integrity.
  • Ensure participants are aware of the regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices related to drilling operations.
